AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM

Our After-School Program enables children to become strong and enthusiastic readers, writers, listeners, and speakers. From one-on-one tutoring with our reading specialist to daily read-aloud sessions, our program is tailored to meet the needs of each child.

Children are referred to the After-School Program by their teachers or principals, usually because they are struggling to learn to read. Upon arrival, and after a snack, the children receive help with their homework. Then they divide into small groups for reading and writing activities, or to use the computer-based Waterford Early Reading Program. Children also enjoy Creative Dramatics, where they work to prepare a spring presentation for their families of poetry recitations, readers theater, story enactments, and puppet shows. Children typically enter our After-School Program in kindergarten or first grade and continue in the program through third grade.
