MISSION AND BACKGROUND
The Reading Team is committed to helping young children who are at high risk of reading failure to become strong and enthusiastic readers, writers, listeners and speakers.
Here's how:
- Literacy Focus - Every Reading Team session is focused on building the skills and concepts that are critical to reading success.
- Early Intervention - Children typically enter our program between the ages of four and six, a developmental “magic moment” when they are at a peak in their enthusiasm, curiosity, and competence.
- Small Groups - Working in small groups with our professional staff and Literacy Mentors, children assist and reinforce one another’s learning and gain as much from their peers as from the adults.
- Computer-Based Learning - Children participate in the Waterford Early Reading Program, an early literacy curriculum that enables every child to learn. Waterford is highly esteemed for innovative, interactive, research-based strategies and techniques
